Originally bendy was simply meant to be a pleasant abstract display with movement vaguely reminiscent of wind blowing through grass or trees. While the basic concept of bendy is fairly simple, as you began to observe the display you may notice some unusual perceptual effects. Take some time to view the interactions and determine what is happening. In reality, all the movement in this piece is completely random. No line is correlated with another. Yet, as randomly synchronous movements occur there is the illusion of attraction or repulsion. Our brains attempt to impose ordered behavior where there is none. This work can be displayed in multiple screen resolutions. Ideally it should be used as an installation piece projected on a wall or screen to obtain an immersive scale. This minature version is provided as an example of the possibilities. less... |
